From the Front Lines to the Sidelines: Michael’s Journey to the 2026 U.S. Open

At Vets On Set, our mission is to provide veterans with the training, community, and high-end industry placements they need to build lasting careers. Michael’s story represents the ultimate success of this mission.

As a Marine Corps veteran and an active content creator based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Michael combined his drive with the technical workflows of Absolute Media Labs and Absolute Live Productions. His exceptional skill as a live sports camera operator has earned him a coveted spot on the production crew for the upcoming 2026 U.S. Open of Badminton!

In this video, Michael shares how live production restored the feeling of high-level achievement he missed after separating from the military. He also extends a special thank you to our partner, Hydrate To Help, whose clean water initiative directly funds veteran training and opportunities in production. Watch the video to see how we’re gearing up for the future of sports broadcasting!

At Vets On Set, we pride ourselves on putting highly skilled creative technicians to work. This project proudly featured an Air Force veteran set designer, an Army veteran technician, and representation from One Match Fire (a disabled veteran, woman-owned business). We had the Army, Navy, and Air Force all represented on this crew—delivering seamless, professional results under tight broadcast deadlines.

Looking for a veteran-backed production crew for your next project? Let’s build something together.
